Plantain chips which are also known as alloco, kpekere, or chicharritas are made from thinly sliced green plantains and deep-fried until they become crispy and golden and sprinkled with seasoning. Because plantains grow well in the tropics where potatoes can’t take the heat, they’re an excellent carb alternative. It has become general knowledge to make plantain chips from green plantains, but it is also know that one can also make plantain chips from yellow plantains.
